FLORA BEN-AMRAM
פלורה בן-עמרם
Author, painter, lecturer and family woman. Flora, a mother of four and grandmother to thirteen grandkids, was born in Jerusalem in 1936, fourth generation in town. She graduated Alliance Israelite Francaise, Cremieux High School, and majored in literature and French culture at Tel Aviv University. Fluent in six languages, Flora spent several years as a school teacher, and managed the international health department of a private hospital for a decade. Today she lives in Herzliya, and spends most of her time painting, writing and lecturing on the subject of Jerusalem and the culture of Ladino, but most importantly enjoys endless love and great joy from her family life.
סופרת, ציירת, מרצה, מחנכת ואשת משפחה. פלורה, אם לארבעה ילדים וסבתא לשלושה עשר נכדים, נולדה בירושלים בשנת 1936, דור רביעי בעיר. למדה בבית הספר אליאנס לבנות, בגימנסיה כרמיה, ובוגרת מגמת לשון ותרבות צרפת באוניברסיטת תל אביב. דוברת שש שפות, עסקה בהוראה בבית ספר וניהלה מחלקה בינלאומית בבית חולים פרטי. כיום מתגוררת בהרצליה ומשקיעה את רוב מרצה בציור, כתיבה והרצאות בנושא ירושלים ותרבות הלדינו, אך בעיקר שואבת אינספור אהבה והנאה צרופה מחיי המשפחה.

The compositions of shapes and colors seen in her works, are the outcome of intuition that is abstract and subjective.... Flora lays on canvas color after color while not knowing what will come of it. Her pieces have no preliminary layout, rather they are born and mature during the process of painting. It seems like she is floating between her inner feelings and invite us the spectators to fly away with her on the wings of imagination.
In contrast to our daily lives, in which we try to subdue the emerging present, Flora presents us in her paintings, as well as her books, a unique "passiveness" through which she frees herself from having to create realty, but rather allows reality to invent itself...

קומפוזיציות של צורות וצבעים הנראים ביצירותיה, הן תולדה של אינטואיציה אבסטראקטית סובייקטיבית... פלורה מניחה צבע אחר צבע על גבי הבד כשהיא איננה יודעת מה עתיד לבוא. ליצירותיה אין מתווה ראשוני, הן למעשה נולדות ומתבגרות בעת תהליך הציור. נראה כאילו היא מרחפת בינות רחשי ליבה ומזמינה אותנו הצופים לעוף עימה על כנפי הדמיון.
בניגוד לחיי היום-יום שלנו, בם מנסים אנו להכריע ולהשפיע על ההווה המתהווה, מציגה לנו פלורה ביצירותיה, כמו גם בספריה, "פסיביות" ייחודית בה היא משחררת עצמה מליצור את המציאות. המציאות יוצרת את עצמה...
